"It's North West but you don't walk around calling somebody, 'Hi North West!' It's just North," [Kris] Jenner replied." - RealityTVWorld
Kris Jenner defended her granddaughter's name North West by explaining Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's reasoning behind the directional moniker. She said that North means highest power, and Kim and Kanye consider the baby their highest point together, so it works.
I'm sorry, but I'm going to respectfully disagree. Much like Suri doesn't actually mean Princess, as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes claimed, North does not mean highest power. It means, well, up! Per TheFreeDictionary, North does mean "The cardinal point on the mariner's compass located at 0°", so yes, North does mean highest something, but definitely not in the way that the West / Kardashian clan is swinging it.
As for not calling North by her full name, North West, it's probably for the best...but don't play it like you'd be shocked if people call her that. Much like "Kim Kardashian" is a brand name, North West was planned the same way, as was Beyonce's name choice of Blue Ivy. And while I'm not a huge fan of that name either, at least Beyonce had the sense to not name her kid as a phrase...like Hotel Carter or something.
Is this Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's Baby Name? Kaidence Donda West? Update: No, it's North West!
Word has it - unofficially - that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West named their baby Kaidence Donda West. This is similar to the previous rumor, Kai Georgia Donda West, and preferable, in my opinion.
Although I can't stand misspelled names (and I stand by the fact that Khloe is misspelled, by the way), I do like the name Cadence. My confusion comes in because I've read they want to call Kaidence Kai for short...but I'd pronounce that as Kye, like lye, versus Kay like...you know, Cadence. But what do I know, right?
Donda is after Kanye's late mother, so I have full respect for that name.
If you like to know the meaning of names, Cadence means rhythm or rhythmic, which is a very cool meaning for the child of a musician.
UPDATE: This, and the earlier rumor of naming the baby Khrist, are false! The baby's name is North West, with Nori as a nickname.
My opinion? This is a little ridiculous. Really? North West? A direction? And how the (bleep) is a two syllable sound a nickname (typically a short name) for a one syllable name? You don't name your baby Steph and call her Stephanie as a nickname!!!
Ugh, I know celebrities have to pick weird names as part of their culture or whatever, but this just isn't working for me.
If you haven't been watching Bravo's latest reality madness, Princesses: Long Island chronicles the lives of unmarried Jewish young women living in Long Island.
While the show has plenty of drama, one particular plot point is the feud between longtime rivals Casey Cohen and Erica Gimbel. When Casey was in high school, Erica stole her boyfriend because she wanted to sleep with him, and ended up ruining Casey's prom.
Casey and Erica managed to avoid each other until recently, when they found themselves at a shared event in the Hamptons. While Erica was over the whole high school event, Casey was still holding onto it because her father had also cheated on her mother, so she couldn't move past her trust issues.
To start, Erica was acting out at the event, and Casey went off on her. The pair tried to talk, and while Erica cried and apologized, Casey confided that Erica's issues have consistently impacted her since they occurred. At this point, I gave Erica a lot of credit for truly apologizing. However, when Erica rejoined the dinner table, she sounded like she was being sarcastic about the whole thing.
More madness ensued, and eventually Erica had too much to drink and acted out again. At this point, Casey seemed to find some kind of clarity and said maybe she'd come into Erica's life at this point to help her, like to bring her to an AA meeting.
My thoughts on the situation? Casey does need to let go of the past, but I don't blame her for being angry at Erica. Yes, ten years have passed, but she never got resolution for what happened. She needed an apology - a sincere one - to move past what occurred. And when Erica started to fall apart in front of everyone, Casey got her resolution, even if it wasn't in the form of an apology - she realized that Erica has some issues to work through, and she shouldn't take what was done to her personally - it was one of Erica's ways of acting out.
I also don't entirely blame Erica. The girl probably was raised to believe that if she wants something, she should have it and she's entitled to it. Her emotional issues now are probably stemming from some childhood stuff...it's not easy to get over! I do believe she genuinely is a good person, but she needs to work past a few things in order to live more successfully and be more emotionally grounded.
What do you think?
The trio moved into a Hoboken apartment, giving Amanda her own room, with Victoria and Ian sharing theirs. This worked fine during the episode, but I can't imagine this being sustainable, especially because Victoria wanted to marry Ian...and still have him keep Amanda as a girlfriend. But what about inevitable jealousy? What about wanting to have kids? What if Amanda wants kids - could Ian really father kids with both twins? I'm happy for anyone who lives their life in a moral and ethical way, but I truly can't see this working as a long term solution because the girls were already crying a lot during the episode. When questioned about how she'd feel if Ian and Victoria married, Amanda cried. Victoria cried on a few occasions too. Do I think plural marriages / relationships can work? Yeah. But I also think when existing families are involved, it can get sticky...and these people are young, so they have a lot of life to experience.
I also watched the season premiere of I'm Having Their Baby. I love this show. The premise of the show is that a woman is having a baby that she plans to give up for adoption, essentially, having a baby for someone else. In the premiere, we saw a woman who was set on giving up her baby decide to keep her. She'd picked a couple to give the baby to, and when she expressed doubt about going through with the adoption, the couple backed away, leaving her questioning her choice. Fortunately, she and her boyfriend ended up happy with their decision to keep their child.
The other couple was divided on giving up their baby - the boyfriend wanted to keep him, as he'd be his first son, and the girlfriend wanted to give the baby up for adoption to have a better life. This couple did give their baby up for adoption.
Princesses: Long Island was great! It's trashy TV at its best. I loved the dynamic of the Jewish girls looking for husbands, and I couldn't get over how Erica Gimbel seemed to have slept with everyone's boyfriend...and the grudges left from 10+ year old flings. My recommendation? DVR a few episodes of this show, grab some popcorn and bring over some friends...and sit down for a Princesses marathon.
Couples Therapy was intense. The show features several couples, but most notable were Joe Francis (of Girls Gone Wild fame) and his girlfriend, and Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra from Teen Mom. Catelynn and Tyler seem to be pretty much still in turmoil, despite their long term relationship - but they are young and have been through a lot, so I guess it makes sense. I am grateful that Teen Mom counterpart Farrah Abraham didn't manage to scrounge up a fake boyfriend to be cast on this show...if you recall, she did try. Oh, and Flavor Flav is on the show! That's pretty awesome! His relationship has some major issues - he was already in a relationship when he did Flavor of Love!
Right off the bat, Flavor Flav caused drama with Catelynn and Tyler, telling them that they took a gift away from their child by taking away her parents. Oh, goodness. Sure, Carly (their daughter) will have questions...but she will have a great, stable life with her adoptive parents, and because her parents were on Teen Mom, she'll see how much her parents struggled with the decision to give her a better life.
There was lots of other drama...and I'm sure we'll see more in the episodes to come.
First, I checked out Marriage Boot Camp: Bridezillas. This show is on WeTV, and features the marriages of couples formerly featured on Bridezillas. It's reminiscent of VH1's Couples Therapy, minus the celebrity (if you can even call many of the couples of Couples Therapy famous, anyway). This show was alright. It's a fun watch if you have time on your hands. The authenticity and truth behind it, well, I'm doubting there's much of it, as I'm sure a lot of the drama is being turned on for the cameras. Would I call this a favorite show? No. But it's a good watch if you have some ice cream and can catch a marathon.
Next, I watched I'm Married To A.., a show on VH1. This was by far my favorite show of the three I watched. It features couples in which one of the partners has a unique characteristic. For example:
- One person was a transsexual cam girl.
- One person was a quadriplegic.
- One person...er...two people were part of a plural marriage (think Sister Wives, and yes, this guy's hair is just as strange as Kody Brown's) - and also the women are strippers.
- One person was a dominatrix.
The best part about this show is how well the human interest stories are played out. In the case of the quadriplegic man and his wife, we got to watch as they found out that they would, in fact, be able to have children. It was wonderful to see their joy. In another story, the 'event' wasn't as strong (telling the husband's daughter that his new wife was a dominatrix), but we really wanted to care about the couple. And in the case of the cam girl...well, you should just watch that episode...they have quite a story!
This, in my opinion, is a great show, sort of in the vein of I'm Pregnant And..., which I also enjoy.
Third was Pregnant and Dating on WeTV. This was boring. Straight up boring. One woman went on a date and asked a guy if he'd ever date a pregnant woman without revealing that she was pregnant. He wasn't into it and she decided not to schedule a second date. Sorry, Pregnant and Dating, I'm just not feeling it.
Usually I'm critical of baby names, especially celebrity baby names because they tend to be a bit strange, but I love Everly. It's classy, different, yet somehow not weird. Everyone will be able to spell it, it makes sense, and it sounds pretty. I think Jenna and Channing hit the perfect match of a creative yet perfectly acceptable name.
The one flaw in the name is the meaning. While it sounds like it would mean complete or eternity or something (from the word ever) it actually means "wild boar in a woodland clearing". The meaning's a bit rough, but if you aren't concerned with the meaning of names, this name is absolutely perfect.
The new series will take a pair of male and female strangers each week, strip them down naked, leave them stranded in a remote area of the world, and force them to endure extreme weather conditions with no food, water or clothes over the course of 21 days.
Sounds...interesting? There must be items that the pairs can use as clothes, otherwise the whole show would be a blur of blacked out boxes (they certainly can't show us that kind of thing on regular cable!), but other than that, the concept sounds interesting. We'll be meeting new people each week, so as long as they're all interesting, this should be a pretty cool show.
One participant had this to say of her time on the show:
“I’m an ultimate survivalist,” said the show’s star, Kellie Nightlinger, 38, who was starving after two weeks in the wild when she cooked up a scheme to use her ladyparts as bait to catch fish between her legs at a muddy watering hole.
Discovery must be having an attachment to nudity-related shows, because they also have Naked Castaway coming up, which tracks a naked man who has to survive on a deserted island near Fiji.
