Thanks, Gina, for inspiring me!

I had some serious writer's block earlier today. Even after watching Wife Swap and Jersey Shore, I wasn't feeling inspired. Then, I took a glimpse at Gina's blog. She wrote about how Forever 21 launched a maternity line, and the controversy that ensued. Her blog entry inspired me so much that I had to publish my own thoughts on the subject. I highly suggest that you take a look at Gina's blog for her take, then read my article for mine. Can you believe that people are really blaming Forever 21 for encouraging teen pregnancy by launching a maternity line? I mean, I certainly believe it, but I think people are overlooking the obvious - parents are responsible for helping their children determine right from wrong, and cute clothes also exist for non-pregnant teenagers.

You can buy a Juicy Couture tracksuit whether you're pregnant or not. You can buy jeans whether you're pregnant or not. You can buy clothes at Forever 21 whether you're pregnant or not. So, Forever 21 offering maternity wear is encouraging pregnancy? I think not.

That being said, reality TV is actually doing a good job of glamorizing teen pregnancy. Shows like MTV's Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant do show the negative side of teen pregnancy, but they also tell us that simply getting pregnant can make you famous. What kind of message is that to send to teenagers? Far worse than showing that pregnant women can be frugal and presentable!
