Teen Mom brought us more of the same stuff this week. Catelynn and Tyler continued their arguments. Farrah and her mom continued their arguments. Amber and Gary continued their arguments. Yeah, you get the idea.
The most interesting part of this week's episode of Teen Mom was when Gary proposed to Amber. Not only did he note that he's proposed several times at this point, but he asked Amber:
"Do you want to marry me?"
Say what? Do you want to marry me? Do you want to? Okay, maybe I'm a traditionalist, but "Will you marry me?" is appropriate. So is "Would you do the honor of marrying me?" But "Do you want to marry me?" sounds so...insincere. It's like saying, "Hey, Amber, I don't really feel like it, but I know you want to get married, so do you want to marry me? Because I'll do it if you really want me to." I can't speak about Gary's intentions, because I don't know them, but that was a pretty hardcore linguistic mistake if he really wanted to marry Amber.
On another Amber-related note, Amber looked fantastic! She looks like she lost some weight. You go, Amber!
If You Really Knew Me
If You Really Knew Me, another MTV show, was interesting this week. Ashley, a 'brain,' told us that people perceive her as snobby because she doesn't talk to others, but she doesn't care about that. Interesting, that does make her a little bit snobby, doesn't it? She doesn't make an effort to talk to people. She keeps to herself. That really is kind of what we call snobby, isn't it?
Don't get me wrong - I have a ton of respect for Ashley. She openly noted that school is her priority, which is absolutely amazing in high school. She lets us know that being smart is a good thing! It's refreshing to see a high school student who embraces her intelligence, drive and goals.
It was wonderful to see Ashley open up and see the world around her that she'd previously not seen. It was also wonderful to see her be so happy with her life - not worrying about makeup and boys, but openly complimenting her own happy life and family.
This week's episode was really touching. We saw a lot of pain, both from family situations and school cliques. It's amazing that even with so much legitimate struggle in life, people still feel the need to put each other down.
